Fidalgo Nature School currently offers half-day outdoor preschool, as well as programs for caregivers to attend with their toddlers and babies.
Our teachers use an emergent curriculum philosophy to follow the interests of the class as they move through the school year together, and the Since Time Immemorial Curriculum to foster understanding of Coast Salish Peoples.
We are working to expand our programming for the 2021-2022 school year. As the only fully outdoor preschool in Skagit and Island Counties, we are seeking funding to double capacity, remove barriers for under-resourced families, help fulfill the local need for full-day preschool, serve meals in class, and create a gear-lending library to provide necessary outdoor clothing. For children ages 3-6, our preschoolers are immersed in the rich coastal landscapes, old-growth forests, and Coast Salish cultural heritage of Deception Pass State Park.
Free for caregivers to accompany their babies in carries, early-walkers, and toddlers under 3 years of age, gaining a sense of comfort and curiosity in the natural world with songs, nature walks, stories, and nature-based activities
